Old Pulteney Goes Loony!

Maritime Malt Set For Seasonal Sea Dip
Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky is preparing to warm thousands of brave souls up and down the country over Christmas, Boxing Day and Hogmanay with the sponsorship of twelve Loony Dooks - chilly dips in freezing waters to celebrate the season.
From the 'Walrus Dip' in Llannelli, Wales, to the UK's oldest winter swim, in Broughty Ferry, Old Pulteney is sponsoring the events for the first time this year as part of its 'Genuine Maritime Malt' identity and will warm participants with a dram on the shore and Celebratory Loony Dook T-shirts.
With Dips and Dooks becoming increasingly popular year-on-year, hundreds are opting not to stay at home with selection boxes and Christmas TV but to brace some of the UK's iciest waters, raising money for various charities. This new-found tradition attracts leagues of spectators. The Seaburn Swim in Sunderland is Europe's largest with 800 people taking part and more than 1000 to watch. Scotland's most renowned Loony Dook, in South Queensferry, Edinburgh, is expected to enjoy its largest swim yet this year and is talked about all over the world.
Old Pulteney has invested in the events due to its longstanding association with the sea. Established in 1826 in the coastal location of Wick, Old Pulteney Distillery is the most northerly on the Scottish mainland and was founded during a herring fishing boom that for a time turned the town into the busiest fishing port in Europe.
Old Pulteney Brand Manager, Margaret Mary Timpson says:
"The Dook is a growing contemporary tradition that still very much relates to our maritime roots, so it made sense for us to get involved. With the events attracting thousands of people across UK and Ireland, it presents an ideal opportunity for those taking part to reward themselves after the event with a dram of Old Pulteney"
