Isabella Fortuna Sets Sail With Old Pulteney.
18/07/2005
Thanks to Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky, Isabella Fortuna was able to sail proudly into Portsoy harbour last weekend for the annual Scottish Traditional Boat Festival.
Old Pulteney, also known as The Genuine Maritime Malt, helped the historical boat back home to Scottish waters by sponsoring a much-needed replacement main sail. As one of the last remaining fishing vessels dating back to 1890, Isabella Fortuna was acquired by the Wick Society in 1997 with the aim of using her to promote the town's rich coastal and maritime heritage. With its distillery based in Wick - which many years ago was the busiest fishing port in Europe - Old Pulteney worked with the Society to bring Isabella back to her former glory. And, to celebrate the boat's refurbishment visitors at the Traditional Boat Festival were given a free dram of Old Pulteney to raise a toast to one of Scotland's most impressive boats.
The Scottish Traditional Boat Festival at Portsoy is a major event in the calendar of the traditional sailing community with over 80 boats taking part and 13,000 people in attendance. As well as supporting Isabella Fortuna, Old Pulteney also sponsored the event by donating prizes for the winners.
Margaret Mary Timpson, brand manager of Old Pulteney said:
"It was fantastic to see a boat as beautiful and as impressive as the Isabella Fortuna back in the water. The Festival itself was a great success and we were delighted to be able to lend our support as part of our broader maritime and coastal activity."
