27/08/2002
Airdrie-based Inver House Distillers Ltd has scooped a clutch of awards, sweeping the board at premier drinks tasting competition, the International Wine and Spirit Competition.
Promoting the quality and excellence of the world’s best wines, spirits and liqueurs, the competition is the pinnacle of drinks tasting events, with a highly structured judging process. Winning in a range of categories including several malt whisky categories, increases the prominence of Inver House as one of Scotland’s top distillers.
Judging included both blind tasting and chemical analysis and all entrants were judged upon appearance, nose, palate and overall balance, with a points system resulting in gold, silver or bronze medals for each category as well a commended certificate awarded at the judges’ discretion.
Inver House’s portfolio comprises five malt whisky distilleries as well as gin and vodka and a cream liqueur plant.
A gold award went to Balbair in the Scotch Whisky, Single Malt, Highland, 33 Year category, while a commended went to both Balmenach Highland Selection 27 Year Old and Heather Cream Liqueur. The Red Ice Vodka product won a silver medal.
However, Inver House’s ‘maritime malt’, Old Pulteney, particularly excelled in this competition, winning a silver medal in the Scotch Whisky, Single Malt, Highland, 12 Year category whilst in the 26 Year category, the Highland Selection 26 Year Old also scooped silver. Said Margaret Mary Timpson, Brand Manager for Old Pulteney: “As part of the Inver House portfolio, Old Pulteney has seen its sales increase by 25 per cent year-on-year and these latest awards only serve to confirm the growing stature of the brand. “The single malt attracts both younger and older drinkers alike and is one that is making the whisky world sit up and take notice.”
